1 April 2025: Today, the new financial year has started from 1 April 2025. With this, many new rules will come into force, which will affect your earnings, expenses and savings. This includes income tax slab, toll tax, LPG cylinder prices, UPI payment, banking rules and many other changes. Know the top 10 changes that will affect your pocket.

1. Increase in toll tax

If you are thinking of traveling by road, then you may now have to pay more money for toll tax. NHAI has planned to increase toll rates from Rs 5 to Rs 10 on major highways. Toll rates will increase on Lucknow-Kanpur, Varanasi-Gorakhpur and Lucknow-Ayodhya routes in UP. Apart from this, toll charges are also likely to increase in Delhi-NCR, Maharashtra, West Bengal and Karnataka.

2. New rates of LPG cylinder

Like every month, a new list of LPG cylinder prices is released. From April 1, there has been relief in the price of commercial LPG cylinder. According to the new rates released by Indian Oil, the 19 kg commercial cylinder has become cheaper by Rs 41 to Rs 45. This cylinder will now be available in Delhi for Rs 1762, whereas earlier it was Rs 1803. However, there has been no change in the prices of domestic gas cylinders and it is stable at Rs 901.

3. Rates of CNG, PNG and ATF

The government has increased the price of natural gas by 4%, due to which the prices of CNG and PNG may increase further. The increase in natural gas prices will be effective from April 1, 2025. CNG and PNG rates are likely to increase due to the government increasing the price of gas

4. New income tax slab

Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman announced the new income tax slab in Budget 2025-26, which will come into effect from April 1. If a person chooses the new tax regime with an annual CTC of 12 lakh, then he will not have to pay any tax. Apart from this, the benefit of standard deduction of Rs 75,000 will also be available. All existing deductions will continue for those who want the old tax system.

5. Changes related to UPI payment

UPI accounts of those who were not transacting through UPI and whose number was inactive for a long time will be closed from today. This means that if you have not used UPI for a long time, then you will need to activate it again.

6. New Pension Portal (UPS Portal)

The central government is going to launch the Unified Pension Scheme (UPS). From April 1, all central government employees can apply under this scheme. Under this scheme, a pension of at least Rs 10,000 will be available if the employee has completed 10 years of service.

7. New features of RuPay Debit Card

NPCI has added many new benefits for RuPay debit card users. Now facilities like spa session, accident insurance, golf course entry, airport lounge access, OTT membership, free health checkup, cab coupons will be available on this card.

8. Changes in credit card

Many banks like SBI and Axis Bank have made changes in the reward points and benefits of credit cards. Especially the reward system of Air India SBI Platinum Credit Card and SimplyCLICK Credit Card has been updated. At the same time, due to the Air India-Vistara merger, new benefits will be given on Axis Bank’s Vistara Credit Card.

9. Changes in banking rules

If you have a savings account in SBI or any other bank, then it will now be mandatory to keep at least a balance in the bank account. If the minimum balance is not maintained, then a heavy penalty may have to be paid.

10. Changes in DigiLocker and GST rules

Now investors will get the facility to store their demat and CAS statements directly in DigiLocker. Apart from this, multi-factor authentication will now be mandatory to log in to the GST portal, which will make the data more secure.
