Indian Government blocks 100 websites: Modi government has taken major action against fake websites luring illegal investments and part time job fraud. Through these websites, scammers were not only misleading the users but were also committing financial fraud.
The Indian government is taking big steps to completely eliminate cyber crime. The government has taken major action against fake websites luring illegal investments and part-time job fraud. Through these websites, scammers were not only misleading the users but were also committing financial fraud. If the official statement is to be believed, these websites were being run from abroad and they had also developed a huge network in India.
Blocked 100 websites
Last week, the Indian Cybercrime Coordination Center (I4C) with the help of the vertical National Cybercrime Threat Analytics Unit (NCTAU) had identified 100 websites involved in illegal investment and part-time job fraud. These websites have been blocked by the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) using the Information Technology Act, 2000 (IT Act, 2000).
This is how money was withdrawn
These websites were found to be involved in illegal investment. Investigation also revealed that they were being operated from abroad. The crime was being committed with the help of digital ads, chat messengers and rented accounts. Card, cryptocurrency or ATM was used to withdraw money.
These people were on target
The main targets of scammers were women and unemployed youth. The fraudsters lured these people through strategically placed digital advertisements on major platforms like Google and Meta. These advertisements often used attractive keywords such as “home-based job” and “easy earning”. After clicking on these ads, victims were contacted by fraudsters on popular messaging platforms like WhatsApp and Telegram.
