200 Vande Bharat trains, 100 Amrit Bharat trains.. Railways got ₹ 2.52 lakh crore, know details

Budget 2025: Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw said on Saturday that Rs 2.52 lakh crore has been allocated for the Railways (Indian Railways) in the budget for the next financial year and projects like making 17,500 ordinary coaches, 200 Vande Bharat and 100 Amrit Bharat trains have been approved.

Budget 2025: Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw said on Saturday that Rs 2.52 lakh crore has been allocated for the Railways (Indian Railways) in the budget for the next financial year and projects like making 17,500 ordinary coaches, 200 Vande Bharat and 100 Amrit Bharat trains have been approved. Vaishnav, while talking to reporters at Rail Bhavan here after the presentation of the General Budget for the financial year 2025-26, gave information about the projects allocated for the Railways and future outlay.

He said, “New projects worth Rs 4.6 lakh crore have been included in the budget, which will be completed in four to five years. These are related to works like laying new railway lines, doubling of existing railway lines, new construction, redevelopment of stations and flyovers and underpasses. He said that in view of the increasing demand for rail travel, 100 Amrit Bharat, 50 Namo Bharat and 200 Vande Bharat trains will be made in the next two-three years.

The Railway Minister said, “With the new Amrit Bharat trains, we will also work to connect many other cities with short distances.” When asked about the shortage of general class coaches within the trains, Vaishnav said that approval has been given to manufacture 17,500 such coaches in the coming years.

Vaishnav said, “The manufacture of ordinary coaches is already underway and by the end of March 31, 1,400 such coaches will be ready. Our target is to make 2,000 ordinary coaches in the next financial year. Along with this, construction of 1,000 new flyovers has also been approved. He said that the Railways is going to achieve a major milestone related to freight capacity by March 31, 2025.

He said, “We will achieve the target of carrying 1.6 billion tonnes of goods by March 31 and Indian Railways will reach second place after China in terms of freight transportation in the world.” He said that Indian Railways is going to achieve the target of 100 percent electrification by the end of the current financial year.

Vaishnav, emphasizing on the safety of rail operations, said that the government has increased the allocation for this from Rs 1.08 lakh crore to Rs 1.14 lakh crore and in the next financial year it will be increased to Rs 1.16 lakh crore. The Railway Minister said that if the investment coming under Public-Private Partnership (PPP) is also added to this, then the total budget becomes Rs 2.64 lakh crore.
