2000 Rupee Notes Alert: Rs 2,000 pink colored notes were issued during demonetisation. Now these notes are negligible in circulation. Be it bank counters or ATMs, 2000 rupee notes are rarely seen. Rs 2000 notes have not been printed since the year 2019. Is the government printing these notes again?
2000 Rupee Notes Alert: On November 8, 2016, the Central Government had implemented Demonetization in the country. After this, new notes of 500 rupees and 2000 rupees (Two Thousand New Note) were seen in the country. Old Rs 500 and Rs 1000 notes were discontinued. Now the question arises whether the Reserve Bank of India is going to issue new designed banknotes of Rs 2000? Is RBI preparing to issue new 2000 rupees banknotes of Mahatma Gandhi series? We are not asking this, rather this question has been asked to the Central Government in the Parliament.
When this question was asked to the government in Rajya Sabha, Minister of State for Finance Pankaj Chaudhary said that RBI has already issued new Rs 2000 notes in 2016.
Rajya Sabha MP asked this question to the government
Rajya Sabha MP Rajmani Patel asked the question to the government. To which the Minister of State for Finance has replied in writing. The MP asked the government whether the RBI is issuing Rs 2000 new digit banknotes with new series of Mahatma Gandhi notes? If so, in what manner are these notes being issued? Responding to this question, the Minister of State for Finance said that the Reserve Bank of India has issued new design notes of Rs 2000 in Mahatma Gandhi (new) series in 2016 itself.
Rajmani Patel asked the government whether the government has given mandatory instructions to banks not to recirculate Rs 2000 notes. Instead, deposit these notes with the Reserve Bank of India. Answering this question, the Minister of State for Finance categorically denied and said that no such instructions have been given.
2000 rupee notes are not available on bank atm
In fact, in a session of Parliament, the government was asked whether RBI has banned the giving of Rs 2000 notes through bank ATMs? The government has strongly denied these things. Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman said that no such order has been given to the banks. Sitharaman said that according to the Annual Report of RBI, since 2019-20, there has been no demand for supply of banknotes of Rs 2000 denomination.
