Washington, Reuters. 23 states in the United States, including the District of Columbia and four major cities headed by California, have filed suit against the Trump administration. The move has been taken by President Donald Trump’s administration against the decision to weaken fuel efficiency standards. The Trump administration has changed fuel efficiency standards set in Barack Obama’s time.
In March, the Trump administration issued final regulations that, according to it, set a target of increasing fuel efficiency by 1.5 percent annually by 2026. This is much less than the five percent fixed annually during Obama’s tenure. However, the Trump administration has reversed its 2018 decision to stop the need for fuel efficiency at the level of 2020 by 2026.
Know how much distance a car travels on average per gallon of fuel, this determines its fuel efficiency. A vehicle with higher fuel efficiency will travel more distance in less fuel. California’s Attorney General Xavier Bekera said that weakening fuel efficiency standards would increase people’s spending and increase pollution. This will also ultimately affect people’s health.
It is noteworthy that US President Donald Trump has also been the target of opposition leaders during the Corona crisis. Joe Biden, a strong contender from the Democratic Party for the presidential election in the US, called President Donald Trump a “fool” and said wearing masks in public to prevent the spread of Corona is a sign of efficient leadership. He said that nearly one lakh Americans have died from Corona. Half of these people could have been saved. According to Johns Hopkins University, more than 5 million people have been confirmed to have been infected with the virus worldwide and more than 340,000 have died, while experts believe the exact figures are much higher.
