29 Dead after drinking Toxic Liquor in Tamil Nadu, more than 60 are ill, MK Stalin came into action

Bharatiya Janata Party state president K. Annamalai also condoled the deaths. He accused the state government of not taking steps to control the problem of illicit liquor in the state.

At least 29 people died and more than 60 fell ill after consuming poisonous liquor in Tamil Nadu’s Kallakurichi district on Wednesday, who have been admitted to hospital. Some of those admitted to JIPMER are in critical condition. Locals alleged that these deaths were due to consumption of illicit liquor, while the district administration has denied it. Three senior ministers in the Stalin government, including Health Minister M. Subramanyam, have reached Kallakurichi to monitor the situation.

Meanwhile, PMK founder Dr. S. Ramadoss condoled the death of people and said that Chief Minister MK Stalin should take responsibility for the deaths and failing to prevent the problem of illicit liquor. Let us tell you that Stalin also holds the responsibility of the Home Department. He demanded a compensation of Rs 10 lakh each to the families of the victims and better treatment to those admitted in the hospital.

It is noteworthy that a few months ago, more than 20 people had died due to drinking poisonous liquor in Marakkanam of Villupuram district and Madurantakam of Chengapattu district.

Stalin expresses grief

Chief Minister MK Stalin expressed grief over the poisonous liquor tragedy in Kallakurichi district on Wednesday night and promised stern action against those involved in such evils that ruin lives and society. “I am shocked and saddened to hear about the death of people after consuming poisonous liquor in Kallakurichi,” Stalin said in a social media post.

He said, “The people involved in this case have been arrested.” He said that action has also been taken against the officers who failed to stop this. He also said that if the public gives information about the people involved in such crimes, immediate action will be taken.
