UK Company Adopt 4 Day In Week Rule: On one hand, while some people in India are advising to work 70 to 90 hours a week, on the other hand, at least 200 companies in the UK have taken such a decision, which will bring a lot of happiness to the employees. According to a report by The Guardian, taking a historic decision in the United Kingdom, at least 200 British companies have implemented the rule of working only 4 days a week for their employees without reducing their salary. This change is supported by the 4 Day Week Foundation and companies from marketing, technology, charity, and IT sectors have participated in it.

Those who support the 4-day working pattern believe that the 5-day working pattern is inherited from the old economic era and needs to be changed. According to Joe Ryle, campaign director of the 4 Day Week Foundation, “The 9-5 working pattern was created 100 years ago and it is no longer suitable for modern times.” Ryle said that working 4 days a week will give employees more free time and freedom to live a better life. Along with this, it is also a better way for the client to increase production and attract employees.

Which companies are making changes

This step was first taken by 30 companies related to marketing, advertising, and press relations. After this, technology, IT, and software firms also adopted it. So far, a total of 200 companies have implemented the rule of working 4 days a week, led by 59 companies in London.

Change in work culture after Covid-19

The working from home pattern during the Covid-19 pandemic separated many employees from the traditional work structure. When many American companies, such as JP Morgan Chase and Amazon, ordered employees to come to the office five days a week, it saw opposition. Many employees demanded the right to work from home against this order.

Growing interest in support of working 4 day week

Many senior leaders of the Labor Party have also supported this move, although it is not the official policy of the party. According to a survey, people between 18 and 34 years consider the rule of working 4 days a week to be more correct. In this, about 78 percent of the youth believe that this will become the norm in the next five years.

Benefits of working 4 days a week

According to a survey by Spark Market Research, the youth say that mental health and overall well-being are their top priorities and a four-day week is an important factor in improving their quality of life.
