In such a situation, his organization is going to launch a big movement along with other bank unions.
He said that he is in the process of starting a movement and other bank unions and associations are also being invited to join it. He says that the demand for a 5-day work week has been made for a long time, but it has not yet received final approval from the Finance Ministry.
Sunday and Saturday holiday is required
An agreement has already been reached between the Indian Banks’ Association (IBA) and employee unions regarding a 5-day work week. This proposal was decided with the signing of the 9th joint note in March 2024. In this proposal, it has been decided to keep Saturday and Sunday as a holiday. However, it has not yet been approved by the government.
Customers will not be affected
On the impact of bank customers due to 5 working days, the unions have assured that the 5-day work week will not reduce the hours of providing services to the customers. Rather, for this, the working hours will be increased by about 40 minutes.
What will change if 5 working days are implemented
If the 5-day working week is implemented, the opening and closing time of bank branches can be changed. This is so that customers can avail banking services for a longer time. Currently, banks work from Monday to Saturday (except second and fourth Saturdays). But after the new proposal is implemented, all bank branches will remain closed on Saturdays and Sundays. If the government approves this proposal, it will be implemented under Section 25 of the Negotiable Instruments Act.
