On Monday, announced a new scheme for farmers, under which farmers suffering crop loss due to drought, excessive rain or unseasonal rain, will get compensation without paying any premium.

Gandhinagar. Gujarat (Gujarat) Chief Minister Vijay Rupani on Monday announced a new scheme for farmers, under which farmers suffering crop loss due to drought, excessive rain or unseasonal rain, will get compensation without paying any premium. This scheme has been named as ‘Chief Minister Kisan Sahay Yojana’. This scheme will replace the Prime Minister’s Crop Insurance Scheme (PMFBY) for Kharif crops. Chief Minister Vijay Rupani told in a press conference in Gandhinagar on Monday that the state government will provide crop insurance at zero premium for the kharif crop of 56 lakh farmers of the state.

Compensation of Rs.
Rupani said that if the kharif crop of farmers is damaged due to floods or unseasonal rains between June and November, the government will give compensation of up to four hectares. Compensation will be given only when crop loss due to drought or excess rain or unseasonal rain will be more than 33 percent. Compensation of Rs. 20 thousand per hectare and Rs. 25 thousand per hectare will be given on the loss of 60 percent crop loss. To take advantage of this facility, farmers will not even need to register insurance and pay premium.

Rupani said that for this year only, we are replacing the PMFBY with the Chief Minister Kisan Sahay Yojana because the insurance companies have demanded a much higher premium from us this time. The benefits of Kisan Sahayata Yojana and State Disaster Relief Fund will be given to the farmers.

Rs 4,500 crore will be
spent – He said that this year the amount demanded by the insurance companies is more than the average premium of about Rs 1,800 crore. Thus, we have decided not to accept the tender for this year and start this scheme. If we accept their tender, then the state government will have to pay Rs 4,500 crore as its share.

56 lakh farmers will get benefit-
This new scheme will benefit 56 lakh farmers of Gujarat. Rupani said, a portal will be started for the scheme. Farmers can apply online on this portal. Tribal farmers registered under the Forest Rights Act will also be eligible for this scheme. Since the state government had already set aside Rs 1,800 crore to pay crop insurance premiums.
