63.54 lakh domestic air passengers traveled in November, 51% less than last year: DGCA

New Delhi A total of 63.54 lakh domestic passengers traveled by air in the month of November of 2020, which is 51 percent less than the same period last year. The country’s aviation regulator DGCA gave this information on Friday. According to the DGCA, 39.43 lakh and 52.71 lakh people traveled by air in September and October respectively. According to data shared by DGCA, 34.23 lakh passengers traveled from IndiGo in November, accounting for 53.9 percent of the total domestic market. SpiceJet carried 8.4 lakh passengers, accounting for 13.2 percent of the market.





In November, 6.56 lakh, 5.77 lakh, 4.21 lakh and 3.97 lakh passengers traveled from Air India, GoAir, AirAsia India and Vistara respectively. The regulator said that SpiceJet’s occupancy rate was 77.7 percent in November. According to DGCA, the occupancy rates for other major airlines IndiGo, Vistara, GoAir, Air India and AirAsia India were 74 percent, 70.8 percent, 70.8 percent, 69.6 percent and 66.3 percent respectively.

International commercial passenger flights to remain suspended till 30 November: DGCA

India resumed domestic passenger flights on 25 May after two months due to the coronavirus epidemic. Indian airlines are permitted to operate a maximum of 80 percent of domestic flights. The DGCA data noted that IndiGo had the best on-time performance of 97.5 percent in four metro airports – Bengaluru, Delhi, Hyderabad and Mumbai – in November.

DGCA said that AirAsia India and Vistara were second and third in November with 95.6 percent and 94.8 percent performance at these four airports. The aviation sector has been greatly affected by travel restrictions imposed in India and other countries in the wake of the coronavirus epidemic.

All airlines in India have taken measures to cut spending, such as pay cuts, leave without pay and workers fired, so as to avoid an economic crisis.
