Beijing, AP. Chinese state media say 8 children drowned after falling into a river. It was told that seven other children jumped into the river to save one child and had to die. The deaths were reported to have occurred in Chongqing, southwestern China. The children were still students of primary school.

State media reported that the children went to play in the river on Sunday and where the bodies were recovered by Monday morning. No further details could be found about this. Explain that heavy rain was forecast for Chongqing, but it is not clear what was the flow of the weather. The students were from the Mixin area of Chongqing city.
