The central government had announced a package of Rs 1.7 lakh crore in the last week of March, with a view to rescue the poor people from the economic crisis created due to the lockdown. Under this, it was also announced to provide free cylinders to the beneficiary women of Ujjwala scheme from April to June. Under this scheme an amount of Rs 9,670 crore has been transferred to the account of about 7.5 crore women, but no amount could be transferred to the account of 76.47 lakh women. On March 26, PM Garib Kalyan Yojana was announced by Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman. Under this, it was decided to transfer the amount of cylinder for three months to the account of the beneficiary women of this Ujjwala scheme.
However, no amount has been transferred to the account of 76.47 lakh women beneficiaries of this scheme. Out of these, 31 lakh women could not get government help due to problem in account. According to the Economic Times report, 31 lakh beneficiaries of Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana could not transfer funds to the account because the account was not linked to Aadhaar or the account was closed or deactivated due to non-update of KYC.
