7th Pay Commission: Modi government has given a gift to central employees. The central government has allowed its employees to travel by Tejas, Vande Bharat and Humsafar trains under LTC. That is, central employees can avail LTC benefits on traveling in these trains. This step has been taken after the Department of Personnel and Training (DOPT) received suggestions from all offices and employees about different premium trains under LTC.
In an order issued on Tuesday, the DOPT said that the department looked into the matter in consultation with the Department of Expenditure and it has been decided that apart from the existing Rajdhani, Shatabdi and Duronto trains, now government employees will be allowed to travel in Tejas Express, Vande Bharat Express and Humsafar Express trains under LTC as per their eligibility. Central government employees also get back the expenses incurred on tickets for travel on availing LTC.
Earlier last year, the government has extended the timeline of LTC for many places. The central government has extended the scheme of availing Leave Travel Concession (LTC) for its employees to travel to Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh, Andaman and Nicobar Islands and Northeast states for two years. Now this scheme will be in force from 26 September 2024 to 25 September 2026. Under this scheme, government employees can convert their home town LTC to travel to these selected places.
Can LTC be used for air travel?
Government employees who are allowed to travel by air can claim the cost of air tickets under government rules. They can use the service of any airline under this scheme while traveling from their workplace, but it will be necessary to follow the terms and conditions. This scheme is a great opportunity for those government employees who want to travel to these beautiful places of the country. Under this scheme, employees can not only go on a memorable trip with their family but can also avail the benefit of LTC.
