7th Pay Commission DA/DR Updates: Will the payment of dearness allowance and dearness relief of central employees, which was settled or suspended during the 18 months from January 2020 to June 2021, be received?

7th Pay Commission Dearness Allowance: There is big news for the government employees and pensioners of the country. There is now hope of getting the Dearness Allowance and Dearness Relief which were not given to them during the Covid-19 crisis. Actually, the Finance Ministry has received a proposal in this regard. Under this, a recommendation and demand has been made to provide 18 months’ dearness allowance/dearness relief to government employees and pensioners, which was suspended during the Covid-19 crisis. If this is accepted then government employees and pensioners may get great news in the budget or after it.

Who has proposed

According to the news published in Economic Times, Bharatiya Pratiksha Mazdoor Sangh has written a letter to this effect to Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman. On behalf of the labor union, General Secretary Mukesh Singh has requested the Finance Ministry of the Central Government that the allowances like DA and DR which were suspended and stopped, should now be released. It can be said that this recommendation has been made assuming that the Modi government at the Center can fulfill this demand to woo crores of government employees and pensioners.

From when till when was DA and DR not given?

During the Covid-19 pandemic, during the 18 months from January 2020 to June 2021, the payment of dearness allowance and dearness relief of central employees was settled, i.e. it was kept suspended. However, Minister of State for Finance Pankaj Chaudhary had earlier said in a written reply in the Parliament that due to the challenging Covid period of the financial year 2020-21, it does not seem possible to pay the arrears of DA/DR for this period.

Why dearness allowance/dear relief arrears may be released till February

It is believed that the Modi government may take a decision to increase dearness allowance and dearness relief between January and February to woo central employees and pensioners. In fact, the dates for the 2024 Lok Sabha elections are expected to be announced by the Election Commission in the first week of March. With the announcement of election dates, the code of conduct will come into force in the country. After that the central government will not be able to increase dearness allowance.
