Actually, a decision is going to be taken on the dearness allowance for the first half of the year i.e. from January to June. If we look at the pattern so far, a decision is taken on it in the month of March every year. The government announces it around Holi. In such a situation, this time also the increase in allowance is likely to be announced before Holi. Let us tell you that the festival of Holi will be celebrated across the country on 14 March 2025. In such a situation, it is being speculated that it can be approved in the cabinet meeting to be held before Holi.

How much will DA increase

The central government can increase the dearness allowance by 3 to 4 percent. If this happens, the allowance of central employees will go up to 57 percent. Let us tell you that in October 2024, the Union Cabinet had approved an additional installment of 3 percent of dearness allowance and dearness relief for the July half year to the central government employees and pensioners. Earlier the allowance was 50 percent. Let us tell you that the government gives allowance to the central employees twice a year. It is decided on a half-yearly basis. This allowance is given according to the basic salary. This allowance is given according to the recommendations of the Seventh Pay Commission.

Waiting for the recommendations of the 8th Pay Commission

Now the central employees are waiting for the recommendations of the Eighth Pay Commission. In January this year, Prime Minister Narendra Modi approved the formation of the Eighth Pay Commission to amend the salaries of central employees and allowances of pensioners. This move will benefit about 50 lakh employees of the Central Government and about 65 lakh pensioners. Let us tell you that the Seventh Pay Commission was constituted in 2014 and its recommendations came into effect from January 1, 2016. Its term is ending in 2026.
