8th Pay Commission: 100% Salary hike in new fitment factor for central government employees? know details

8th Pay Commission, Fitment Factor: The exact increase in the salary of central employees will be known only after the recommendation of the 8th Pay Commission. But experts are constantly expressing their estimates on this.

8th Pay Commission: After the central government announced the 8th Pay Commission last month, central employees and pensioners are now waiting for a hike in salary and pension. News24 tried to find out in its recent exclusive interview how much salary increase is possible. Now, M. Raghavaiya, staff leader of the National Council-Joint Consultative Machinery (NC-JCM), told NDTV Profit that they are pressing for a fitment factor of at least 2 in the new pay commission.

What is the estimate?

Former Finance Secretary of India Subhash Chandra Garg had told News24 in an exclusive interview that the government may approve a fitment factor of 1.92-2.08 under the next pay commission. While the revised fitment factor suggested by Raghavaiya is in the middle of ‘1.92-2.08’ fitment. Currently, the minimum basic salary of central government employees is Rs 18,000 and the minimum basic pension of pensioners is Rs 9,000. At 1.92 fitment factor, the minimum basic salary of central government employees will become Rs 34,560. Apart from this, the minimum basic pension can increase to Rs 17,280.

… then there will be this much increase

At 2 fitment factor, the minimum basic salary of central government employees will become Rs 36,000, which is an increase of 100%. At the same time, the minimum basic pension can increase to Rs 18,000. If 2.08 fitment factor is kept, then the minimum basic salary of central employees will become Rs 37,440, which is an increase of 108%. Similarly, the minimum basic pension can increase to Rs 18,720.

When will it be implemented?

Union Minister of State for Finance Pankaj Chaudhary had told in a written reply in Rajya Sabha on February 4 that the government has approved the formation of the 8th Central Pay Commission. On the question of the appointment of members and chairman of the new pay commission and the timeline, the minister had said that it would be decided in time. However, Shiv Gopal Mishra, Secretary Staff Side NC-JCM (National Council – Joint Consultative Machinery) in an exclusive conversation with News 24 had told about the expected timeline of the new pay commission. He had said, I hope that the 8th Pay Commission will be constituted by February 15, 2025. The report of the commission will be finalized by November 30. The government will review it in December and the new pay commission can be implemented in the country from January 2026.
