However, experts believe that this process may take more time than the scheduled time and there may be a delay in the implementation of the 8th Pay Commission.
When will the 8th Pay Commission be implemented?
The Union Cabinet headed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi approved the 8th Pay Commission on 16 January 2025. However, no official announcement has been made yet regarding the chairman, members and rules of the commission. According to experts, the 8th Pay Commission will be implemented in the year 2026 because even before this, the recommendations of the 7th Pay Commission were implemented in 2016.
The government said this
On 4 February 2025, the Minister of State for Finance confirmed in the Rajya Sabha that the government has approved the formation of the 8th Central Pay Commission. The central government usually constitutes a pay commission every 10 years. The 7th Pay Commission was constituted in 2014 and its recommendations were implemented from January 2016. Similarly, the 6th Pay Commission came into force from 1 January 2006.
Will dearness allowance be added to the basic salary?
At the same time, before the formation of the 8th Pay Commission, there has also been a demand to add dearness allowance (DA) to the basic salary. In a recent meeting, the National Council of Joint Consultative Machinery (NC-JCM) requested the government to add dearness allowance, which has exceeded 50%, to the basic salary. Employees and associations have been making this demand for a long time.
Union Information and Broadcasting Minister Ashwini Vaishnav clarified that the 8th Pay Commission has been set up on time to ensure that the recommendations can be implemented before the end of the time period of the 7th Pay Commission. He also said that the chairman and two members of the commission will be appointed soon. However, no timeline has been given by the government.
