Union Budget: There is news for lakhs of government staff of the Government of India and the state government. The possibility of a big jump in their salary is over for the time being. They are not going to get the increased salary as per the recommendations of the Eighth Pay Commission for at least one year. Because, the Government of India has not put any money for the salary increase on the basis of the Eighth Pay Commission in the budget for the financial year 2025-26 presented in the Parliament. Actually, the term of reference is being sought for the Eighth Pay Commission right now. In this way, it will take at least a year for the report of the Pay Commission to come. Only after that it will be decided how much the salary of which staff will increase. Only by assessing that increased salary, the Government of India will be able to arrange money for it in its next budget i.e. the budget of 2026-27.

Wrote to ministries to suggest term of reference

According to the report of Moneycontrol, Finance Ministry’s Expenditure Secretary Manoj Goel has also accepted that it will be possible for the government staff to get the increased money according to the Eighth Pay Commission from the next financial year. Right now the Finance Ministry has sent a letter to the Defense Ministry, Home Ministry and Ministry of Personnel and Training asking them to suggest the Terms of Reference. The process of work of the Pay Commission of the Government of India will start only after the approval of their Terms of Reference by the Government of India. Manoj Goel also said that the Pay Commission will start its work as soon as the Terms of Reference are approved by the Government of India.

The previous commission took more than a year

The previous commission, the Seventh Pay Commission, took more than a year to submit its report. Even if the Eighth Pay Commission is constituted by March 2025, its report will not come before at least March 2026.
