On which employees will the 8th Pay Commission not be applicable

Currently the 7th Pay Commission is applicable in the country. This pay commission was formed in the year 2014 and it was implemented in the year 2016. Actually, employees who are employees of Public Sector Undertakings (PSUs) or any autonomous body or are judges of the High Court and Supreme Court, are outside the purview of the Pay Commission. This is the reason why the 8th Pay Commission will not be applicable to these people.

How will the salary increase in the 8th Pay Commission?

The salary hike in the 8th Pay Commission will be based on the fitment factor and allowances. According to reports, the fitment factor in the 8th Pay Commission can be between 1.92 to 2.86. That is, the basic salary of government employees will increase from 18000 to 51000 directly. However, it has not yet been decided what will be the fitment factor in the 8th Pay Commission.

What is the fitment factor?

The fitment factor is a multiplier, which is used to revise the salary and pension of government employees. It is applied to the existing basic salary and the new salary is calculated on this basis.

Understand it like this that the fitment factor has a direct impact on the basic salary of the employees. For example, if an employee’s basic salary is 15,500 and the fitment factor is 2.57, then his total salary will be 15,500 × 2.57 = 39,835.
