8th Pay Commission: The fitment factor affects only the basic salary, while the gross salary is different from it. Apart from this, other components are also included in the salary, due to which the salary increases.

8th Pay Commission: The central government has recently announced the 8th Pay Commission. After this announcement, government employees are hopeful that after the formation of the 8th Pay Commission, their salary will increase significantly due to the increased fitment factor. However, it is not that the salary of government employees will increase only due to the fitment factor in the 8th Pay Commission. Let us know in what other ways the salary of government employees will increase.

How does the fitment factor increase salary?

The fitment factor is a multiplier that the government uses to revise the salary and pension of government employees. The fitment factor is estimated to be 2.86 in the 8th Pay Commission. If this happens, the basic salary of government employees will increase from 18000 to 51000 directly. However, it is not that the salary of government employees will increase only due to this.

How else will the salary increase

Actually, the fitment factor affects only the basic salary, while the gross salary is different from it. Apart from this, other components are also included in the salary, due to which the salary increases. Like the government has asked to increase the DA, then it will also affect the salary of government employees.

Understand with an example

Let us tell you, the fitment factor in the 7th Pay Commission was 2.57, due to which the basic salary increased from Rs 7,000 to Rs 18,000. But, if we talk about the actual increase, the salary and pension of level 1-3 government employees increased by an average of only 15 percent. Whereas, in the 6th Pay Commission the fitment factor was 1.86, but the salary and pension increased by up to 54 percent.

This means that it is clear that whatever be the fitment factor in the 8th Pay Commission, it will only affect the basic salary. How much your gross salary will increase will depend on your level, allowances and other factors. Let us tell you, the 8th Pay Commission is expected to be implemented from January 1, 2026.
