8th Pay Commission Salary Hike: The fitment factor plays the most important role in deciding the basic salary of central employees. In the 7th Pay Commission, it was 2.57, due to which the minimum salary increased from ₹ 7,000 to ₹ 18,000.

8th Pay Commission: The wait for the 8th Pay Commission for central government employees and pensioners is now gaining momentum. It is being speculated that the salary of central government employees can see a jump of 20% to 30%. But, how much salary will be at which pay-level and what can be the fitment factor, this question is in everyone’s mind. More than 50 lakh central employees and 65 lakh pensioners will get the benefit of the salary increase under the 8th Pay Commission.

When will the 8th Pay Commission be implemented?

If government sources are to be believed, the 8th Pay Commission will start functioning from April 2025. It can be implemented from January 1, 2026. However, it is necessary to complete the entire process for this. The 7th Pay Commission (7th CPC) was implemented from January 1, 2016 and its tenure will be till December 31, 2025. But, the entire process of the commission takes 18 months. In such a situation, it is difficult to say whether it will be implemented by January 1, 2026 or not. Usually a new pay commission is implemented every 10 years. According to this, the 8th CPC should be implemented from January 2026.

What will be the fitment factor?

The fitment factor plays the most important role in deciding the basic salary of central employees. In the 7th Pay Commission, it was 2.57, due to which the minimum salary increased from ₹ 7,000 to ₹ 18,000. Now there are three different estimates regarding the fitment factor in the 8th Pay Commission – 1.92, 2.08 and 2.86. This will decide what will be the new salary of the employees. If the fitment factor is 2.86, then the minimum salary can increase from ₹ 18,000 to ₹ 51,480.

How is the basic salary decided?

New basic salary = Existing basic pay × fitment factor

Will DA be zero in the 8th pay commission?

In every new pay commission, the Dearness Allowance (DA) is reset at the beginning. Currently, the DA in the 7th Pay Commission is 53%, and it is yet to increase by 3%. After this, there is another revision in July. But, in the 8th Pay Commission, it will be reset from zero and then increased at regular intervals.
