8th Pay Commission: There is big news for central government employees and pensioners. The 8th Pay Commission is likely to be implemented soon, which will benefit about 50 lakh employees and 65 lakh pensioners. This can increase their salary and pension significantly. However, recently it was reported that pensioners retiring before January 1, 2026 will not get the benefit of the 8th Pay Commission, which created confusion in the minds of the employees. According to reports, the government may divide the pensioners into two parts – one who retired before January 2026 and the other who will be after that.

On this, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, while responding in the Rajya Sabha, said that pensioners need not fear. She clarified that the changes made in the Finance Bill are only for the validation of the old rules. This will not reduce the pension benefits. She also said that all pensioners got equal benefits in the 7th Pay Commission, irrespective of the date on which they retired.

Sitharaman said that there was definitely a difference in the 6th Pay Commission, but in the 7th Pay Commission, all pensioners were given equal pension. The same policy will be adopted in the 8th Pay Commission so that no employee or pensioner is left behind.

At present, discussions are in full swing regarding the fitment factor. According to experts, it can be up to 2.00, 2.08 or 2.86. If 2.00 gets approved, the minimum wage will increase from Rs 18,000 to Rs 36,000 and the pension will increase from Rs 9,000 to Rs 18,000. The government has indicated that the 8th Pay Commission will be beneficial for both employees and pensioners. Now all eyes are on when the government implements it and how much salary it increases.
