The Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) and the Department of Posts has been renewed for five years for continued access to passport services through Post Office Passport Seva Kendras (POPSKs).
The MoU was signed by Manisha Bansal Badal, General Manager, Business Department Directorate on behalf of the Department of Posts and KJ Srinivas, Joint Secretary (PSP & CPO) on behalf of the Ministry of External Affairs.
The MoU talks about shared commitment for effective management and operational support of Post Office Passport Seva Kendras, to ensure that the citizens of India continue to get world class passport services at their nearest post offices.
More than 1.52 crore people have benefited
Since the launch of Post Office Passport Seva Kendra in 2017, more than 1.52 crore people have been served. Especially in rural and deprived areas, thereby ensuring access to passport services for citizens across India. The network of Post Office Passport Seva Kendra has grown significantly in the last few years and currently 442 centers are operational across the country.
This MoU strengthens the cooperation between the Ministry of External Affairs and the Department of Posts, aimed at enhancing service delivery, streamlining operations and meeting the growing demand for passport-related services.
Plan to increase the number of centers to 600
Under this initiative, there is a plan to increase the number of passport service centers to 600 across the country by 2028-29, which will ensure greater access and convenience for the citizens and the annual customer base will increase from 35 lakh to 1 crore in the next five years. This will further strengthen India’s postal network, and passport services will become more convenient, reliable and easily accessible to all citizens.
