Application made in Delhi High Court
In fact, the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has opposed in the Delhi High Court an application seeking issuance of a new Aadhaar number to a dealer and said that such a request would amount to people asking for a vehicle registration number of their choice.
What if the rules are changed?
Advocate Zuhaib Hasan, appearing for the authority, said before Justice Rekha Palli, “It will be like a demand for a fancy number plate for a car.” In fact, Justice Palli is hearing an application alleging that the personal details of the petitioner, including the Aadhaar number, have been compromised. That is, they are being issued the Aadhaar number of their choice.
Hassan said the current framework provides “multiple levels of security” to Aadhaar card holders and if the application is accepted, a large number of people will come forward to demand change of their Aadhaar number. At the same time, he also suggested that the petitioner should add his mobile number and e-mail address so that his Aadhaar number is not misused. Let us tell you that the next hearing of this case will be in January.
