Know the whole process of lock and unlock

Aadhaar locking means that its 12 digit number and instead of 16 digit virtual ID (VID) will not be used for any kind of necessary authentication. Once a person locks Aadhaar, then authentication will not be processed for UID, UID token etc. In this, biometric, demo graphic and OTP based authentication will also not work. If a citizen wants to unlock his unique ID, then it can be unlocked by going to the resident portal. After unlocking, all types of authentication process can be completed.




Biometrics lock

Aadhaar holders also have the option to do Aadhaar Biometric Lock. Biometric lock or unlock is a service whereby the Aadhaar holder locks his biometric for some time and unlocks it when needed. The purpose of this facility is to protect the privacy of biometric data.

A biometric lock ensures that the fingerprint or the date associated with the eyeballs are not misused. Aadhar card holder can also unlock their biometric easily.

how to lock Aadhaar?

To lock unit identification, a person must have a 16 digit virtual ID number. If no one has a VID, then it can also be generated through SMS. For this, the last 4 or 8 digits of Aadhaar will have to be written after the space by writing GVID in the message box. After this message will have to be sent to 1947. Example: What is GVID 1234

Aadhaar lock or unlock process?

Go to the resident portal and go to the section of My Adhaar and click on Lock & Unlock in Aadhaar Services here. In it, click on the UID lock radio button and enter the Aadhaar number. After this, after entering the full name, Pincour and latest details, the security code has to be filled. After this, click for OTP or select TOTP and click on submit button.

To unlock your unique ID, you must have a test VID number. If you forget the 16 digit VID number, you can also retrieve it. For this, you have to write the last 4 or 8 digits of the Aadhaar number after the space by writing RVID and sending it to 1947. Example:

After getting the RVID 1234 VID, you have to click on the Unlock radio button and fill the latest VID. After this, enter security code and ask for OTP or select TOTP and click on submit. After this your Aadhar card will be unlocked.

How to lock or unlock Aadhaar Biometrics?

For this also you have to go to the resident portal. After going to My Adhaar section on this portal, go to Aadhaar Service Service. It will have the option of lock / unlock biometrics. In the next step, enter your Adhar number or VID number. After entering the captcha code, ask for the OTP on the registered mobile number. Submit it after submitting the OTP. After doing this, your biometric will be locked. Follow the same process to unlock Aadhaar biometric.
