Aadhaar Card Update: Ram and Shyam were childhood friends, but their problems were almost similar! Recently, both of them needed to make some changes in their Aadhar Card , for this they made some inquiries, but they were not able to understand what can be done online for updating Aadhar and for which updates they would have to go to the Aadhar Center.
Ram had to update his mobile number and address in his Aadhaar, while Shyam had to update his photo and biometrics. Both of them went to the UIDAI website and got a lot of options. But it was still difficult for them to understand which update could be done online from home and which one would have to be done by visiting the Aadhaar service center.
Come, let us explain this confusion of Ram and Shyam regarding updating their Aadhaar…
Ram’s problem: Mobile number and address update
Which Aadhaar updates can be done online from home?
- Name (minor spelling correction)
- Date of birth (minor mistake, can be corrected only once)
- Gender (Male/Female/Transgender)
- Address (with valid address proof)
- Mobile number and email ID
This is how Ram updated Aadhaar online
- Went to UIDAI website. Selected Update Aadhaar Online option there. Did Aadhaar number and OTP verification.
- Gave details of new address proof and mobile number. Paid ₹50 fee online and submitted the request. Aadhaar was updated and he got it in 7 days. Ram was happy that he updated mobile number and address from home. But Shyam’s problems still remained.
Shyam had to get photo and biometric updated
Which updates will be done only at offline Aadhaar Seva Kendra?
- Major change in name (change of surname or full name)
- Major correction in date of birth
- Photo update
- Biometric (fingerprint, iris scan)
This is how Shyam got it updated offline
Shyam went to his nearest Aadhaar Seva Kendra. Filled the Aadhaar update form and submitted the identity card. Clicked a new photo and got the fingerprint scanned again. Paid ₹100 fee and got the update request number (URN). His Aadhaar was updated in 10 days! Shyam took some time, but finally his Aadhaar was corrected.
What things should be kept in mind while updating Aadhaar?
What to do if the online update is rejected?
- Rejected due to wrong document? Upload a new document.
- Information filled incorrectly? Correct it and apply again.
- Getting rejected repeatedly? Go to the Aadhaar Seva Kendra and get it updated offline.
How to check Aadhaar update status?
Go to UIDAI website. Select Check Aadhaar Update Status option. Enter your Update Request Number (URN) and see the status.
How long does Aadhaar update take?
- Online update: 5-7 days
- Offline update: 10-15 days
Ram found online update easy, while Shyam had to go to Aadhaar Seva Kendra to get it updated. But now both their Aadhaar cards were completely updated and they were not going to face any problem in any government work in future!
