Disney’s Hotstar India: Disney is following in the footsteps of Netflix. Earlier in May, Disney’s streaming rival Netflix implemented a similar policy in more than 100 countries. They informed customers that sharing service with people outside their household would require additional payment

After Netflix, now another streaming giant in India is making password sharing difficult for users. According to reports, Disney+ Hotstar is planning to limit password sharing among its premium users. According to sources associated with OTT, after the change, access to login will be limited to only four people. No one other than premium users will be able to login with the said ID and password. Sources told the news agency Reuters that work is going on.

The Reuters report mentions that the company is planning to implement a new policy that will allow premium users to log in from only four devices. This step has been taken as a measure to address the issue of password sharing.

Netflix also made changes

According to Reuters, Disney is following in Netflix’s footsteps. Earlier in May, Disney’s streaming rival Netflix implemented a similar policy in more than 100 countries. They informed customers that sharing service with people outside their household would require additional payment.

May be implemented at the end of the year

Currently a premium Disney+ Hotstar account in India allows login on 10 devices. According to the report, the company is considering implementing the new policy later this year. The primary purpose of this policy is to limit logins for Premium accounts to a maximum of four devices.

According to the news, Disney hoped that by not strictly enforcing the four-device login policy, it would attract customers who could purchase the service through password sharing. However, this could not happen, after which the company has decided to implement the new policy.

Disney, Netflix, Amazon and billionaire Mukesh Ambani’s JioCinema have become hugely popular in India, with the sector set to become a $7 billion market by 2027, according to Media Partners Asia . Industry data says that Hotstar leads the Indian market with around 50 million users.
