Flight operations at the airport in India’s financial capital Mumbai will be closed for six hours on May 8. Actually, flying operations at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport will be closed for a special reason. MIAL, associated with airport operations, said that this will be done due to maintenance of the runway before the onset of monsoon. Mumbai International Airport Limited (MIAL) also said that a notice was issued to the airmen 6 months ago to inform all the stakeholders including the airport staff about this.
The private sector airport operator said that pre-monsoon maintenance work on both runways – 09/27 and 14/32 – will run from 11 am to 5 pm on May 8.
Runway maintenance is important
Officials said this annual pre-monsoon maintenance is very important to keep the airport’s basic infrastructure strong. MIAL said experts will inspect the runway surface and take measures to prevent waterlogging to ensure safe landing and take-off during the monsoon season.
