Airport Closed: Maintenance work is starting from today at this Airport. Due to this work which will go on till July 15, the movement of flights remain partially closed from today till 15 July.

Lucknow CCI Airport: Due to repair and modernization of the runway from Chaudhary Charan Singh International Airport (Lucknow) in Uttar Pradesh, the movement of flights will remain closed from 10 am to 6 pm every day from March 1 to July 15. This work is going to start after getting approval from DGCA. A large number of passengers may face problems during these two and a half months. Those passengers who have booked their tickets in advance may face more problems. Lucknow Airport has advised passengers on its website to contact the concerned airlines to know about the status of their flight.

35 or more flights may be cancelled daily

It is estimated that 35 or more flights may be cancelled every day. On an average, more than 21 international and about 109 domestic flights were operated daily from Lucknow Airport in January this year. At the same time, the number of international passengers was 1.09 lakh and the number of domestic passengers was more than 4.77 lakh. Due to the work going on till July 15, it is expected that more than 1,088 flights may be cancelled during this period.

Why is there a need to improve the runway?

According to an airport official, ‘The existing runway has given good service for years. But now maintenance is necessary to maintain its quality and meet safety features.’ The runway will be upgraded to increase better structure, friction, strength, and operational efficiency. Along with this, related repairs will also be done.

Runway status

The length of the existing runway is 2,744 meters and the width is 45 meters. A 7.5 meter wide shoulder has been given on each side. It was last recarpeted in 2018. Chaudhary Charan Singh Airport usually handles 140 flights every day. But this number will decrease during the repair.

What will happen in the runway improvement work?

Under the maintenance of the runway, the existing bituminous runway will be removed and a new bituminous layer will be laid so that it is in line with regulatory standards. A total of 1.80 lakh square meters of area including the runway and taxiway will be reconstructed. A new full-length parallel taxiway of 2,744 meters will be constructed, which will speed up the movement of aircraft after landing and take-off.
