Telecom companies tweak their prepaid packs from time to time to suit changing regulations and consumer preferences. It has been a standard practice for all three of India’s top telcos — Reliance Jio, Airtel and Vodafone-Idea.

As part of this strategy, telcos bring in new tariff plans or modify existing ones at regular intervals.

Here is a guide on the prepaid plans that the three telcos have recently introduced or tweaked, and one specific plan that has run into trouble with Trai.

Jio
Two new tariff packs have been introduced by Reliance Jio at Rs 499 and Rs 777, respectively, under its IPL-special plan Dhan Dhana Dhan.

Customers get free yearly access to Disney+ Hotstar VIP under these plans. They also feature various call & data benefits besides free SMSes.

The Rs 499 pack offers 1.5 GB/day of high-speed internet for a period of 56 days. There is no call/SMS benefits.

Under the Rs 777 plan, subscribers get 1.5 GB/day of high-speed data, along with 5 GB of extra data. It has a 84-day validity. It also features unlimited Jio-to-Jio calling, 3,000 FUP minutes and 100 complimentary SMSes/day.

Airtel
Airtel has widened the geography of its Rs Rs 129 and Rs 199 prepaid tariff plans. Until recently, these plans were available only in a few circles. The new rule enable customers from any circle to buy these plans.

The Rs 129 pack offers 1GB of high-speed data, unlimited calls and 300 SMSes. It is valid for 24 days, and comes with free access to Airtel Xstream, Hello Tunes and Wynk Music.

The Rs 199 plan has the same validity period and provides 1 GB of high-speed data per day, unlimited calls and 100 daily complimentary SMSes. Free access to Airtel Xstream, Wynk Music and Hello Tunes is provided under this plan too.

Besides, the Rs 401 plan has seen some tweaks. This plan used to offer 3 GB data for 28 days along with a complimentary subscription to Disney+ Hotstar VIP. The modiified pack offers 30 GB data for the same period.

Airtel has expanded its annual Disney+ Hotstar VIP access to other plans as well — namely the Rs 448, Rs 499, Rs 599 and Rs 2,698 packs.

Voda-Idea
Vodafone-Idea has been in news lately not so much for fresh or modified plans as for its troubles related to a Trai show cause notice.

The notice demands an explanation on why Voda-Idea’s RedX premium tariff plan should not be banned over which Trai says are “false claims on faster data speeds”.

The plan may have to be eventually scrapped if the company is unable to come up with plausible explanations.
