Jerusalem, Pty. Alon Ushpiz has been appointed as the new Director General of the Israeli Foreign Ministry on Thursday. He has also previously been the Israeli Ambassador to India.
Foreign Minister Gabi Ashkenazi has chosen Ushpiz for the post. Ushpies has served as Ambassador to New Delhi from 2011 to 2014. He will replace Yuval Rotem, who had been working in the post for the last four years.
In addition, Uspies has previously served as Political Secretary in Tokyo, Policy Advisor to the Israeli Foreign Minister, Minister of Congressional Affairs in Washington DC and Head of the Bureau for Coordination in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. He graduated from Hebrew University in International Relations and Japanese Studies, and is currently heading the influential political wing responsible for formulating policy matters.
