Apple's self-driving car is not far away! Testing gained momentum

Apple Self-Driving Car Testing: Apple has intensified the testing of its self-driving car. It has driven more than 450,000 miles autonomously in the US from December 2022 to November 2023. According to Wired’s report, Apple presented data to the California Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV), which showed that it has tested its autonomous car more than last year. That means, Apple’s self-driving car project is now speeding up.

Earlier reports claimed that Apple has reduced its ambitions to make a self-driving electric car. But, new documents show that the company is still testing its self-driving car. Let us tell you that Apple has permission to test autonomous vehicle tech on the public roads of California, but for this the company must have a safety driver driving the car.

Meanwhile, Google’s Waymo has covered 3.7 million miles of testing distance with a safety driver and 1.2 million miles of testing distance without a driver in California. The report said, the company has covered an additional distance of more than 1.6 million miles with passengers in the car.

There are reports that Apple has postponed the 2026 launch of the “Apple Car”. This will be an electric car, whose price is reportedly expected to be less than $100,000. The company is still working on the design of the vehicle. Apple has also filed several new patents in software and hardware related to riding comfort such as seats and suspension.

iPhone maker Apple is also reportedly working on Vehicle-to-Everything (V2X) technology, which could enable cars to communicate with each other and connect to the Internet of Things (IoT).
