Delhi New CM: Atishi will be the next Chief Minister of Delhi. CM Arvind Kejriwal proposed her name in the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Legislature Party meeting. The MLAs agreed to this. Atishi will be the third woman CM of Delhi. Earlier, late Sushma Swaraj and Sheila Dixit have been the Chief Ministers of Delhi.
Earlier, the leaders of the Political Affairs Committee (PAC) of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) had suggested Atishi’s name as the next Chief Minister of Delhi. The PAC had a meeting on Monday (September 16).
Atishi has six important departments in the Kejriwal government. These include Education, Women and Child Development, Tourism and Power Ministry.
The CM had announced his resignation on Sunday
Arvind Kejriwal had announced his resignation from the post of Chief Minister on Sunday (September 15). After this, he will meet Lieutenant Governor Vinay Saxena in the evening today and submit his resignation.
Arvind Kejriwal was arrested by the ED on March 21 in the Delhi Excise Policy case. After this, he was arrested by the CBI. He got bail from the Supreme Court on September 13 in the CBI case. He had already got bail in the ED case. He came out of Tihar Jail on September 13 itself.
Why did CM Kejriwal take the decision?
After this, he announced his resignation while addressing AAP workers on Sunday. He said that I want to give a litmus test. He had said, “Until people give him a certificate of honesty, he will not sit on the Chief Minister’s chair.” He also appealed to hold elections along with Maharashtra in November.
These names were also in discussion
According to news agency PTI, party insiders had earlier said that apart from Atishi, the names of Delhi ministers Gopal Rai, Kailash Gehlot and Saurabh Bhardwaj are in discussion as possible contenders for the post of Chief Minister.
