Auto Taxi Fare Hike: Common people may get a shock from February 1, 2025. Auto and taxi fares are going to increase from next Saturday. The transportation cost of common people will increase. This shock will be felt by the common people when the budget is being presented in the country on February 1. Actually, the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Transport Authority (MMRTA) has approved an increase of Rs 3 in the basic fare of auto rickshaws and black-yellow taxis. These new rates will come into effect from February 1, 2025. Earlier, the fare was last increased in October 2022.

How much new fare will have to be paid?

  • Auto rickshaw: Now Rs 26 will have to be paid instead of Rs 23 for the first 1.5 km.
  • Black and yellow taxis: For the first 1.5 km, the fare will be Rs 31 instead of Rs 28.
  • Blue and silver AC cool cabs: For the first 1.5 km, the fare will now be Rs 48 instead of Rs 40. However, passengers will pay these new rates only when the meters of autos and taxis are re-calibrated according to the new rates.

Reason for fare hike

According to a transport department official, the move has been taken due to increasing competition between BEST and Navi Mumbai Transport Service. The minimum fare of their AC bus services is Rs 6 and Rs 10 respectively, due to which auto and taxi drivers were incurring losses.

New facilities for metro connectivity

Keeping in mind the convenience of passengers, the MMRTA has announced that seven new auto stands will be built outside five stations of the first phase of Metro Line 3 (Aarey to Bandra-Kurla Complex). Apart from this, more than 30 regular and shared auto-taxi stands will be started on busy routes like eastern and western suburbs, Thane, Kalyan and Vasai, which will improve last-mile connectivity.

Impact on passengers

This increase will directly affect the passengers who use auto and taxi daily. However, new facilities and improved connectivity will also provide them better service. Passengers are advised to plan their journey according to the new rates.
