Drivers on National Highways will not have to stop at toll points to pay toll. The registered number of the vehicle will be attached to the bank account during the registration of the vehicle itself.
In such a situation, Fastag will not be required to pay the toll. There will also be no need to recharge the FASTag. The amount of toll will be deducted directly from the bank account of the vehicle owner.
Kota’s Regional Transport Officer Arjun Singh Rathore said that on the instructions of the Union Transport Ministry, work has started on the project to make this system GPS-based across the country including Rajasthan. Under the first phase of the project, this system will be implemented on new national highways including the Delhi-Mumbai Expressway.
For this, along with the number plate registration of new four-wheeler private and commercial vehicles to be registered in future, the bank accounts of the vehicle owners will also be attached. Due to this, money will be deducted directly from the driver’s account.
When the vehicles move on the National Highway, instead of stopping at the barrier at the toll plaza, the special cameras installed here will automatically scan the number plate of the vehicle and the fee will automatically be debited from the concerned bank account.
Preparing to implement in four phases
In the first phase, the Transport Department will install the digital chip on the high security plate for the automatic number plate recognition system in newly registered vehicles. The vehicle owner’s bank account information will be on this chip. Only the camera of the Automatic Number Plate Recognition System will be able to scan it.
State Highways will be included in the second phase. In the third and fourth phase, the number plates of old, private and commercial vehicles will be replaced with automatic number plates.
