Pakistan captain Babar Azam has been adjudged the Best Men’s Cricketer of the ODI for the year 2021. Babar was named the ICC Men’s ODI Cricketer of the Year by the International Cricket Council (ICC) last year for his excellent performance. Babar beat Bangladesh’s Shakib Al Hasan, Ireland’s Paul Stirling and South Africa’s Jaaneman Malan in the race for the honour. With this, Babar has become the first player from Pakistan who has become the ODI Cricketer of the Year.

Babar topped the list of batsmen in the ICC ODI Rankings in 2021. In the year 2021, he scored 405 runs in six ODIs with the help of two centuries. During this his average was 67.50. He scored the highest 228 runs in the ODI series against South Africa. He got the captaincy of Pakistan team only last year. It was under his captaincy that Pakistan defeated India for the first time in any format of the World Cup. Babar has also been selected as the captain of the ICC ODI team for the year 2021 and the captain of the T20 team.

In the series against South Africa, Babar was adjudged player of the match in both the matches. He scored a century in the first ODI and scored 94 runs in 82 balls in the last ODI. He single-handedly stood for Pakistan in their 0-3 loss against England. Babar scored 177 runs in three matches but could not get support from the other end. In the last ODI, he shared a 92-run partnership with Imamul Haque. He completed the first 50 runs in 72 balls and the next 50 runs in 32 balls, which was his second century this year.
