Central Bank of India issued clarification
The Central Bank of India, in a clarification regarding media reports regarding closure of branches, said, “We hereby inform that no decision is yet to be taken regarding closure of a large number of branches during the financial year 2022-23.” The decision has not been taken.
‘Transferring branches a regular practice’
The bank said that it is a regular practice for each bank to re-align, move, merge, close or open branches on a regular basis to achieve the objectives of corporate business.
“We assure our dear customers and all other stakeholders that their interests are well protected,” the statement said.
Let us tell you that the Central Bank of India had closed 186 branches from April 2017 to December 2021. At the same time, in the year 2017 by the Reserve Bank of India, the Central Bank of India was put under PCA and other 11 banks.
This action was taken by RBI then due to disturbances in the financial position. Although other banks have improved their position and removed themselves from this list, but the Central Bank of India remains in this list till now.
