Week off will be given for two days in a week
S Nagarajan, general secretary of the All India Bank Officers’ Association , told the media that as per Section 25 of the Negotiable Instruments Act, the government has to declare every Saturday as a holiday. He further stated that because the agreement was in place for a period of time, it was not subject to wage negotiation. However, the government says that RBI’s approval is also necessary regarding this.
Have to do extra work
Even though the talk is going on in the banks on a two-day week off, but in return the employees will have to work 40 minutes extra daily. Please tell that at present the stock markets are also planning to increase the trading time. At present, banks have a holiday on every Sunday as well as on the second and fourth Saturdays.
Finance Ministry can also give approval
According to media reports, the Finance Ministry can also give its approval on this proposal soon. The Indian Banks’ Association (IBA) and the United Forum of Bank Employees (UFBE) have agreed in principle for a 5-day working week, but for this the total working hours would have to be increased by 40 minutes per shift.
Banks will remain closed on these days in May
On the other hand, if we talk about the banking holiday in the month of May, then on May 7, due to Sunday, banks will remain closed across the country. After this, banks will remain closed on May 9 on the occasion of Rabindranath Tagore’s birth anniversary. Banks across the country will remain closed on May 13 due to the second Saturday. Banks will remain closed on 14th May due to Sunday. Banks will not function on May 16 on account of Sikkim Statehood Day.
There will be a bank holiday on 21st May due to Sunday. Banks in Gujarat, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Punjab and Rajasthan will remain closed on May 22 due to Maharana Pratap Jayanti. Banks in Tripura will remain closed on May 24 on account of Kazi Nazrul Islam Jayanti. Banks will remain closed on May 27, the fourth Saturday. There will be a bank holiday on 28th May due to Sunday.
