Bank Holiday: There is no holiday on Monday in only two places in the entire country, one of them is Shimla and the other is Mizoram’s capital Aizawl.

Bank Holiday: As the business year comes to an end, banking activity increases for taxpayers, businesses and common citizens. People often turn to banks to file taxes, make investments and settle business transactions.

Many people prefer to go to the bank on Saturdays instead of the busy weekdays. However, according to the banking schedule of the Reserve Bank of India (RBI), the banks will remain closed for the next two consecutive days.

Why are banks closed?

According to the RBI holiday chart, banks in the country will remain closed on March 30 due to Sunday. On the other hand, there will be a holiday on Monday, March 31. Banks will remain closed on Monday due to Ramadan Eid (Id-Ul-Fitr) (Shawal-1) / Khutub-e-Ramadan.

Only two places in the entire country are not closed on Monday, one of them is Shimla and the other is Aizawl, the capital of Mizoram. As per the current rules, banks in India remain open on the first and third Saturdays of every month, unless otherwise given in the RBI holiday list. Banks remain closed on the second and fourth Saturdays. Apart from this, banks remain closed on every Sunday, irrespective of the state.

Upcoming Bank Holidays in March 2025

  • March 27 (Thursday) – Shab-e-Qadr: Banks will remain closed in Jammu and Srinagar.
  • March 28 (Friday) – Juma-tul-Vida: Banks will remain closed in Jammu and Srinagar.
  • 31 March (Monday) – Ramzan Eid (Eid-ul-Fitr): Banks will remain closed in most states, except Himachal Pradesh and Mizoram.

As per RBI directive, all banks and agency banks handling government transactions will remain open on 31 March 2025, even though it is a holiday in many states. Investors and common citizens are advised to schedule their banking plans according to these holidays.
