Recently, RBI has approved NPCI to increase the charges for ATM transactions and balance checking. The charges will be applicable across the country from May 1, 2025. Bank charge for cheque book
If you open a savings account, you are given a cheque book of 10 cheques free. Banks charge different fees for the cheque book that comes with your name, in which some banks give the first 10 to 20 cheques free and charge Rs 20 per cheque for the remaining cheques. If we talk about the country’s largest government bank SBI, then it charges Rs 75 for a cheque book of 25 cheques. If we talk about current account, then the charge for this cheque book goes up to Rs 500 to Rs 700 for a cheque book of 100 cheques.
Bank charges for transactions
Just like cheque books, banks have different charges for transactions. This is levied if the minimum balance is not maintained. If the balance in someone’s account is less than Rs 5000 or Rs 10000, then the bank deducts Rs 300 to Rs 500. Apart from this, banks also charge Rs 5 to Rs 25 on an annual basis for SMS alerts.
