Noida Police has prepared a plan and instructed banks to save people from digital arrest fraud. Under this, the bank management will have to inform a member of the account holder’s family about the transaction of more than Rs 5 lakh. RTGS will have to be done only after getting permission from them.
A year ago, cases of cheating people by digital arrest started coming in the district. In the last few months, more than 30 cases of digital arrest have come to light. Cyber criminals are targeting those people who have lakhs and crores of rupees in their savings accounts. Cyber criminals collect information about their accounts through the dark web.
The cyber criminals then call people and pretend to be senior officials of CBI, Crime Branch and Police. They scare them by accusing them of being involved in anti-national activities. After this, they keep an eye on them through video calls and in the name of investigation, they transfer the amount deposited in their banks by giving the account number. By the time the victim comes to know the truth, fraud of lakhs and crores has already been done.
In view of the increasing cases of digital arrest, Gautam Buddha Nagar Commissionerate Police is running an awareness campaign. In this sequence, the police has issued guidelines for banks. The police has said that if a person comes to get an amount of five lakhs or more through RTGS, then do a preliminary investigation. Talk to a family member of the account holder on the phone. Transfer the amount only after getting permission. Also, inform the police if there is information about the digital arrest of the account holder.
Inspector Vijay Gautam, in-charge of Cyber Crime Police Station, says that this is another step taken in the chain of awareness. People are also being made aware about digital arrest by putting up pamphlets.
Identify the trapped person in this way
The police has given information regarding identifying the account holder who has been digitally arrested. Police say that after being digitally arrested, the victim first breaks contact with the family members. When an account holder goes to the bank to do RTGS, he is in a hurry. He wants to transfer the money as soon as possible. During this time, he keeps talking to cyber criminals on video call. If there is a problem while doing RTGS in the bank, then the cyber criminals advise the victim on the phone itself.
Many bank employees in the district have become victims of anger
During investigation, the police came to know from the victims that when they went to the bank to transfer the money, the bank employees asked the reason for transferring a large amount. On this, the account holders got angry and advised the bank employee to do his work. However, in many cases, due to the awareness of the bank employee, some people were saved from losing more money.
