Let us tell you that according to SEBI’s mutual fund rules, sectoral/thematic funds are those mutual funds, which invest a minimum of 80 percent in the shares of a particular sector or theme. Currently there are about 183 sectoral mutual fund schemes. About ₹ 13,255 crore was invested in these schemes in September.

4.67 lakh crore rupees invested

The total AUM of these schemes is ₹4,67,188 crore, which is the highest across all categories of equity mutual funds, including flexi cap, ELSS, large cap, mid cap and small cap funds. The schemes we are talking about are well-performing sectoral/thematic mutual fund schemes that have delivered more than 25 per cent CAGR returns over the last five years as of October 18, 2024. It is important to note that most of these top-performing schemes fall in the categories of IT, infrastructure, healthcare, energy and manufacturing.

Wealth advisors often suggest that sectoral/thematic funds are risky and one should invest only a small portion of their portfolio in them. However, it is worth noting that past returns of a scheme, though indicative, do not guarantee future returns. Hence, consult your wealth advisor before investing in any fund.
