new Delhi. The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways has permitted the conversion of regular vehicle registrations to Bharat Series (BH) numbers. Till now only new vehicles were allowed to opt for BH series numbers. The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways said in an official statement that during the implementation of BH series registration number rules, several representations have been received to strengthen the BH series ecosystem.
This step has been taken as part of the measures to widen the scope of BH series. According to the statement, “Vehicles which currently have normal registration numbers can be converted to BH series registration numbers. Necessary tax will have to be paid for this.
Now you can submit application in office
The ministry has also proposed amendment in Rule 48 for the convenience of the people. This will facilitate submission of application for BH series at residence or workplace. It also states that it has been further strengthened to prevent misuse of certificates given by private sector employees.
Started in 2021
For seamless transfer of private vehicles between states, the Ministry of Roads had introduced Bharat series in September 2021 as a new registration number for new vehicles. In this regard, the government had announced a new vehicle registration system. With this, vehicle owners will not need to register again when they move from one state/union territory to another.
Thousands of vehicles have been registered so far
According to the latest government data, more than 49,600 vehicles have been registered under the BH series. Maharashtra registered the maximum number of 13,625 vehicles under the BH series. After this, 5,698 vehicles have been registered in Uttar Pradesh and 5,615 in Rajasthan under BH series.
