After a long struggle of the central government, the government airline company Air India has been sold. The debt-ridden airline company is now in the hands of the Tata Group. Tata Sons, a Tata group company, has won the bid for Air India for Rs 18,000 crore. It is believed that the process of the deal will be completed by December. Now the question is what will happen to the jobs of Air India employees. Will there be retrenchment of employees, or will VRS be given. Let us also know the answers to these questions.
What will happen to the employees: According to Rajiv Bansal, Secretary, Ministry of Civil Aviation, there are 12,085 employees in Air India as of today. Of these, 8,084 are permanent employees and 4,001 workers are on contract. Apart from this, there are 1434 employees in Air India Express. There will be no retrenchment of employees for the next 1 year. Meaning no employee will lose his job for the next one year.

VRS to be paid: If there is a retrenchment after one year, then the employee will have to pay the Voluntary Retirement Scheme (VRS). The interests of the employees and retired employees will be fully taken care of. In this, PF, gratuity etc. everything will be same. No changes will be made. Medical facilities available after retirement will also remain intact.
The winning bidder will retain all the employees. Nobody to be retrenched for one year. If after a year they are to be removed, they will be offered a VRS.
