Recently, in response to a question by BJP MP Sushil Kumar Modi in Rajya Sabha, Minister of State for Rural Development and Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution Sadhvi Niranjan Jyoti has shared big information. A large number of ration cards have been canceled in the last five years.
For information, let us tell you that the Union Minister of State says that in the last five years from 2017 to 20-21, a total of 2 crore 41 lakh ration cards, duplicate, ineligible and fake, have been canceled across the country. He also told that seven lakh 10 thousand ration cards have been canceled in the state of Bihar alone. Along with this, Sadhvi Niranjan Jyoti said that in Bihar, 2.18 lakh in 2018, 3.92 lakh in 2019, 99,404 in 2020, a total of 7 lakh 10 thousand ration cards were canceled. Uttar Pradesh has the highest number of cancellations of 1.42 crore ration cards. Apart from this, 21.03 lakh ration cards have been canceled in the state of Maharashtra.
It is worth noting that earlier in UP, the news of ration card holders surrendering their cards had gone viral on social media. It was being said in this news that ineligible ration card holders have to surrender the ration card by going to the tehsil. Otherwise, ration will be recovered from them by the government. However, later, while clarifying this on behalf of the government, it was told that the Yogi government of UP has not made any such rule. But now the work of canceling the ration cards in the state has been started by the UP government. Not only this, according to the order issued by the UP government, the names of ineligible people will be deducted from the list of ration cards and only the needy will get the benefit of free ration.
