In order to give relief to the common people, three major decisions have been taken by the Income Tax Department in a few hours on Friday. The government has extended the deadline for linking PAN card with biometric ID Aadhaar. Along with this, the government has also extended the date of payment under the direct tax resolution scheme ‘Vivad Se Vishwas’ and a big decision has also been taken regarding prevention of benami property transactions. The deadline has been extended due to the Corona pandemic.

The government has given another six months to link PAN with Aadhaar. This deadline was ending on 30 September this year. The Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) said in a statement that keeping in mind the problems being faced by the people due to the Kovid-19 epidemic, the deadline has been extended, which will ease compliance.

New date for linking PAN with Aadhaar
According to the CBDT, “The deadline for intimation of Aadhaar number to the Income Tax Department for linking PAN with Aadhaar has been extended from September 30, 2021 to March 31, 2022. Income Tax has asked PAN card holders to link their PAN with Aadhar card in time, otherwise their PAN will be deactivated. Those who have not completed this work till now, they have been given more time by the government to settle it.

Penalty proceedings extended
The last date for completion of penalty proceedings under the Income Tax Act has also been extended from 30 September 2021 to 31 March 2022. The government has also extended the date of payment under the direct tax resolution scheme ‘Vivad Se Vishwas’ by six months. Under this scheme, disputed tax, interest, penalty and fee matters are resolved.

In this, the matter is settled after payment of 100% disputed tax and 25% of disputed fine or interest or fee in any assessment or reassessment order. Its date has also been extended from 30 September to 31 March 2022.

Benami Property Transaction Prevention
