Let us inform that under the new excise policy of the Kejriwal government of Delhi, now with the opening of private shops from November 17, liquor can become expensive and its price may increase by 8 to 9 percent. The Excise Department of the Delhi Government has issued an order on Thursday saying that the prices of all types of liquor are likely to increase by 8 to 9 percent.

There may be an increase of 5 to 10 percent

Let us inform that the Excise Department in Delhi is currently working on fixing the Maximum Retail Price (MRP) of the brands of liquor to be registered. In this regard, a liquor trader told that, ‘With the increase in wholesale price, the prices of liquor can increase by at least 5 to 10 percent. However, how much the prices will increase will be known only after the implementation of the new retail system as per the excise policy for 2021-22.


Not yet officially confirmed

However, senior officials of the Excise Department have refused to give any information about the increase in the price of liquor. According to the order of the Delhi Government, ‘Excise Duty and Value Added Tax (VAT) have been added to the license fee in the New Excise Policy 2021-22. Excise duty and VAT will be levied at the rate of one percent each on the wholesale price, on the basis of which the price of supply of liquor to the retailers will be worked out.

At the same time, it has been said in the issued order that, ‘Under the new excise policy 2021-22, due to the revised parameters included in the cost of Indian and foreign liquor, the wholesale price is likely to increase by about 8-9 percent.’ According to this order, it may have a similar effect on other categories of liquor.
