Researcher said that a lot of smart homes and IoT gadgets are going to go bad in the next 12 months. These gadgets include smart TVs, set-top boxes, smart refrigerators and even older Android smartphones.
The Internet of Things (IoT) is one of the technological changes in the last few years. Seeing its popularity, companies started making such smart devices that can be controlled from smartphones. These devices have accessories like washing machine, AC, Fridge and TV. But next year there will be a big problem related to these devices, due to which many smart devices will stop working.
Security Researcher and ConsultantScott Helmy has warned of a big problem coming next year, due to which many gadgets will stop working. Scott told ‘The Register’ that a lot of smart homes and IoT gadgets are going to go bad in the next 12 months. These gadgets include smart TVs, set-top boxes, smart refrigerators and even older Android smartphones. Further the researcher told that these devices will stop getting internet connection in the next one or two years.
The reason for this happening with smart devices is related to their certification. There are many smart devices of certificate authority, whose root security certificates have been made and are about to expire. Smart devices can make secure internet connection with the server only with the help of these certificates. These days it has become necessary to secure all internet connections, so the number of devices affected by the certificate expire can increase.

Can renew certificate
It is a matter of relief that these certificates can be renewed through firmware updates. However, companies do not provide such updates to devices after installation. Especially for devices that are older, companies stop giving updates. For most gadgets, companies stop providing software updates, which causes them to stop.
