Modi’s government changed currency, for the first time, a coin of 20 rupees and a note of two thousand came into circulation.

Coins of Rs 125, 200, 250, 350, 500, 550 were issued.


During the seven years of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s tenure, not only the 500-1000 currency notes were discontinued, but a major change was also made in the prevailing currency. All types of one rupee coins already prevalent in the country to 2 thousand rupees notes were issued with new designs and features.

In the note of the new series, attention was given to those ancient heritage, which have been declared as World Heritage by UNESCO. On 7 March 2019, new coins from 1 to 20 rupees were issued. In this, a 12-cornered 20 rupee coin came into the hands of the people for the first time.

It is a Mani Ratna category company of the Government of India. Under this, the coins that the mint produces, it sells them at premium prices many times higher than the face value. This increases the revenue of the country.

Condolence coin issued for the first time – For the first time in the country, on the centenary of the Jallianwala Bagh massacre, in 2019, a Rs 100 condolence coin was issued. Various types of commemorative coins have been issued earlier in the country for the purpose of making special occasions memorable, but some of these new denomination commemorative coins were issued for the first time during Modi’s tenure and he himself unveiled them all.


This includes coins of 125, 200, 250, 350, 500, 550 rupees. 44 commemorative coins in 7 years- 44 commemorative coins were issued during the tenure of PM Modi.

The first in this list is the commemorative coin issued on the 125th birth anniversary of late former PM Jawaharlal Nehru and the 125th birth anniversary of ISKCON founder Prabhupada at number 44. A variety of commemorative coins have been issued since independence.
