More than 6000 substitute Safai Karamcharis of North Delhi have been given the Diwali gift of regularization. Regularization of Safai Karamcharis will be done in a phased manner. The substitute sweepers were working on a temporary basis for nearly two decades. The Northern Corporation Standing Committee has approved the proposal for regularization of Safai Karamcharis.
According to the information, the substitute Safai Karamcharis engaged on work in Northern Corporation from the year 1998 to March 2003 were not being made permanent for 18-19 years. The sanitation workers were continuously raising their voice regarding this matter. It was told that the number of substitute sanitation workers is 6646, out of which the maximum number is 1521 in Karolbagh zone and 1498 in urban Sadar Paharganj zone. 1182 in Narela, 909 in Civil Line, 798 in Keshavpuram and 738 in Rohini area are employed as substitute sanitation workers respectively. All these employees will be regularized.
The proposal for regularization of employees has been accepted. In this regard, Jogiram Jain, chairman of the Standing Committee, says that the substitute sanitation workers will be confirmed in a phased manner. In the first phase, 500 substitute Safai Karamcharis are to be made permanent, out of which 157 Safai Karamcharis have been issued appointment letters to be permanent. All these employees are working in Dames Department. He says that as the files of Safai Karamcharis keep coming, the process of making them permanent will continue.
